- Folk singer and musician from Edinburgh who was in demand in the folk clubs in the early and mid-1960s. In his early life he had spells working as a miner and on a whaling ship before being conscripted into the army, where he learned to play the guitar. After a brief recording career he had a spell in a kibbutz and later studied ethnology, working for the European Ethnological Research Council. Hand was also an accomplished boxer.
