- Jazz singer. Reed sang from the time he was a child in the 1930s in Watts. He did four prison stints on drug charges, finally overcoming a forty year addiction in 1986. His day job is an addiction counselor. Reed was 78 years of age when he made his recording debut. Among other awards, in 2012 Reed won the "DownBeat" Critics poll as best male vocalist.
