Comments
Blues singer, who as his career progressed became more pop oriented. His nickname "Long John" came from the fact that he was 6 feet, 7 inches tall. Baldry was openly gay in the early-1960s when homosexuality was still criminalized. Baldry helped Elton John become comfortable with his own sexuality after John attempted suicide, and the song Someone Saved My Life Tonight memorialized these events. Baldry lived in Canada from the late 1970s.
