- Electric/Hawaiian/Afro-Cuban guitar player, banjo player, vocalist, bandleader, songwriter and m.c. He played with the Norman Thomas Quintet and Curtis Mosbey's Blue Blowers. Burke played banjo with Louis Armstrong and Hawaiian guitar with Duke Ellington and Fats Waller. In the late 1930s and early 1940s he performed regularly at the Bal Tabarin in Gardenia, California. For many years he worked with Leon Rene, He was a member of Leon Rene's Southern Syncopators in the 1920s, co-wrote songs with him and recorded for Rene's labels including Ammor and Exclusive. He pronounced "Ceelle" as "C.L" and was also known as "C.L. Burke","Cecil L. Burke" and Ceele Burke."
