- Folk, country and bluegrass guitarist, singer and songwriter. Dickens, of Appalachian origin and born in Mercer County, West Virginia, wrote movingly of life in the coal fields and the downtrodden. She moved to the Baltimore/D.C. area in her late teens to join the burgeoning Bluegrass/Folk scene and met Mike Seeger and Alice Dickens.
