Alternative rock band formed by J Mascis (guitar, vocals), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals) and Murph (drums). They were originally known as "Dinosaur" (they were forced to add "Jr." for legal reasons).
By 1994, both Barlow and Murph had left the band, leaving Mascis as the sole stable member.
The group reunited with its original line-up in 2005.
Their style, influenced by hardcore punk and classic rock, was in turn highly influential in the grunge movement of the early 1990's. - Members
