- Nazi party activist, who is best known for being made into a martyr for the Nazi cause by Joseph Goebbels after being murdered in Berlin in 1930. After his death he became a major propaganda symbol in Nazi Germany. The march he had written the lyrics to was renamed the "Horst-Wessel-Lied" ("Horst Wessel Song") and became the official anthem of the Nazi Party.
