Entertainer born in New Orleans. He left home in his youth to join Dr. Lee Cooper's Medicine Show. Later he moved to New York City and enjoyed a successful vaudeville career and became a friend of Scott Joplin. After leaving the stage he opened the first agency for black vaudeville actors, In 1909 he was one of the founders of the Colored Vaudeville Benevolent Association (C.V.B.A.) in New York City. He appeared in two films and, for many years, was editor of Theatrical Jottings for the New York Age newspaper.
