Known as "El Flaco" (the thin one), he was a multifaceted artist, singer, guitarist, poet, writer and composer, considered one of the most important and respected musicians in Latin America. The instrumental, lyrical and poetic complexity of his works earned him recognition in many parts of the world. In 1997, Billboard magazine defined him as an “icon of Argentine rock.” In 2014, it was established by law that the day of his birth was the National Musician's Day in Argentina.
Spinetta founded several groups, such as Almendra, "Pescado Rabioso", Invisible, "Spinetta Jade" and "Spinetta y los Socios del Desierto".
In 2005 he won the Konex Platinum Award as the most outstanding male rock soloist of the decade in Argentina, the same award he won in 1985 and 1995, as rock author / composer and male rock singer respectively. In 2009 he won the "Gardel de Oro", the most important in the country in music, the same award he received his posthumous album "Spinetta Los Amigo".
