Comments
Old-time performer born in Wood County, West Virginia and known as "Cap". Performed with fiddler Andy Patterson in the late 1920's as the Cumberland Mountain Entertainers. In 1929 they performed as the Dixie Harmonizers. In 1931 they started performing with Flip Strickland as Cap, Andy and Flip. They broadcast on radio WWVA in Wheeling, WMMN in Fairmont and WCHS in Charleston and became one of the state's most popular musical groups. Flip left the band in 1940 and was replaced by Andy's son Milt the following year. This trio recorded a few tunes for their own private label in 1945. The death of Andy in 1950 ended the trio act but Cap briefly led a band called the Melody Boys and continued to work as a disc jockey.
