Country singer, guitarist, songwriter and music instructor born in McDowell County, North Carolina. He moved to Asheville in 1934 and was based there for the remainder of his life. Hurdt worked for the Asheville Citizen-Times Publishing Co. as a circulation manager and for many years was in automobile sales while maintaining his music career on the side.
