- Old-Time fiddler born in Webster County, West Virginia. He recorded fifty-two fiddle pieces on August 14-15, 1947 for West Virginia University professor and folklorist Louis Chappell. He is considered to be one of the best fiddlers of his era and the original recorded source for many of today's standard fiddle pieces.
