- Secretary General of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, from 1921 until 1956 and one of the leading translators in Iceland in the first half of the 20th century. He is best known for his translations of Knut Hamsun's novels. Halldór Laxness called him "doctor and master of the Icelandic language".
