"AVRO's Kinderkoor" was formed under the leadership of Jacob Hamel (1883-1943). AVRO was one of the Dutch public broadcasting associations and the first public broadcaster in the Netherlands. In May 1940 - immediately after the German occupation - the Jewish Jacob Hamel was fired by AVRO and in July 1943 he was murdered in the extermination camp Sobibor. After the war the choir was continued in 1946 under the name "Kinderkoor Jacob Hamel". From that year on conductor was Herman Broekhuizen.
