When Patrick Gilmore left Boston for New York, not only the musicians, but the public felt his loss, for there was no band, that could take the place of Gilmore's Band for the people of New England.
But in 1876, Mr. J. Thomas Baldwin, who had for many years been business manager for the Band under Mr. Gilmore, at the urgent request of many old patrons, reorganized the Band under the name of Baldwin's Boston Cadet Band, and from that time their career has been one of uninterrupted success.
