- Singer and pianist born in Detroit, Michigan. A child prodigy, he went to Hollywood when he was 6 years old to appear in a film with Van Johnson and Keenan Wynn, He played with Lionel Hampton, Frankie Carle, Count Basie and Billie Holiday and even performed for President Truman at the White House. By 1949 he had a contract to record for Capitol Records. Later he semi-retired from the music business but has made occasional appearances on stage including the October 2007 Motor City Blues & Boogie Woogie Festival along with Marcia Ball and Deanna Bogart.
