Acclaimed poet and translator (mainly from French) born in Žižkov (now a part of Prague). One of the founders of Devětsil, an association of Czech avant-garde artists (founded in 1920 in Prague). He has been the only Czech writer to gain the Nobel Prize in Literature (in 1984) so far.
