Radio disc jockey and promoter. Credited for introducing the phrase "rock and roll" on mainstream radio in the early 1950s and appearing in a number of pioneering rock and roll motion pictures in the second half of the 1950s. His career was destroyed by the payola scandal that hit the broadcasting industry in the early 1960s. Occasionally, he used the name of his second wife, Jacqueline McCoy, as an alias when copyrighting songs.
