Blane was born Ralph Uriah Hunsecker, but he had his name legally changed early in his career. Blane started in show business as a radio singer; he also appeared on Broadway in singing roles. Blane wrote many songs for film and stage. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.
