Composer of music for popular songs, many of which have become standards, and scores for movies. Arlen also played piano and recorded as a big band vocalist, usually of his own songs.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971 where he gained a Johnny Mercer Award in 1982. In 1997, he was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.
