- Born as Joseph Avion in Elisabethville, Congo where he learned to play the piano, he moved to Belgium in 1960 to spread his musical horizon and to learn to play guitar. There he changed his name into "Ralph Benatar". In 1966 he formed the J.J. Band and together with the duo Jess & James (the Portugese brothers Fernando and Antonio Lameirinhos) he had a hit with "Move".
