Rock band from the late 1970s founded in the autumn 1976 when rock band Virtanen split up after their leader Veltto Virtanen headed for a solo career. Kontra was first called Kontravirtanen, but soon they shortened their name to Kontra playing mostly Finnish adaptations of 1960s rock'n'roll hits.
