- Ragtime and jazz pianist. His music career started when he was in early adolescence in vaudeville as a child prodigy. When he grew too old to play that role, Eckstein accompanied silent films in his native Montreal, Quebec, and in 1919, he gave the first ever live radio broadcast over radio in North America. Eckstein also wrote both ragtime pieces and songs.
