- Jazz musician (trombone) and arranger, who had hoped to be a pianist, but suffered from arthritis starting as a boy derailing this plan. By the time he was 18 he was playing trombone and he later began arranging. In 1990, Byers was awarded the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Orchestrations for "City of Angels".
