- Joseph Rosenblatt was born in the Ukraine. He was a cantor and composer. His prolific recording career started in 1905. He moved to New York in 1912 and became very popular. In additional to his duties as a cantor he gave many concerts at various venues including Carnegie Hall. He turned down the offere to play Al Jolson's father in "The Jazz Singer" but he did play himself in that film.
