Smiley Burnette was a comic cowboy, singer, songwriter, actor and musician from Illinois. Smiley played over 100 different instruments and, in some films, he played as many as 7 instruments simultaneously. In December 1933 Gene Autry hired him to play accordion on his National Barn Dance radio show based in Chicago. In 1934 Gene and Smiley headed west to Hollywood where they began long and successful film careers. They appeared together in many films and Gene sang several songs written by Smiley Burnette. In 1963 Smiley joined the cast of the popular TV show, "Petticoat Junction." He appeared in 105 episodes between 1963 and 1967.
