Jazz trombonist, who played with Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller, songwriter, and bandleader. "Snub" invented an instrument called the slide saxophone, which had both the slide portion of a trombone and a saxophone mouthpiece. When Mosley formed his own band in 1938, he featured his slide saxophone and became known as ''the man with the funny horn.'' He mostly played in the New York area into the late 1970s.
