- During the late 1950s David Dowland and Gordon Dowland were a harmony vocal duo from Bournemouth basically known as Everly Brothers imitators. Their backing group included Roy Phillips on guitar and drummer Chris Warman and they got signed up in 1962 by producer Joe Meek. Roy Phillips co-founded the Peddlers in 1964 and by the second half of the 1960s Gordon Dowland had ceased performing regularly, though David Dowland kept working intermittently for another 20 years.
