Singer-songwriter Johannes Sigmond (Arnhem) played in various bands and projects before pursuing a solo career in 2006. He derived his alias from the Danish cyclist Verner Blaudzun, who won the bronze medal in the men's team time trial at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Sigmond's break through to the general public in The Netherlands was his televised cover of "Shout" on the "De Wereld Draait Door Recordings" in 2011.
