Born near Nowgorod (these days Belarus), Niemen became Poland's both in his motherland and internationally probably most acknowledged keyboarder, composer and bandleader. Also a writer. Starting as a beat musician and supporting Marlene Dietrich at her Warsaw concert in 1964, he - throughout his career - increasingly turned towards complex Art Rock, psychedelic sounds, electronics, classical music and Jazz. Nieman hardly ever did cover versions. He died of cancer.
