Comments: Guitarist, singer and songwriter, Parra plays in many genres. He is a member of the Parra family, which is known for its contributions to Chilean culture. Part of the political left, he was arrested during the American-sponsored Pinochet coup in 1973 and transferred to the National Stadium, along with some 40,000 other prisoners, many of whom were killed. Parra went into exile in Mexico after his release, ultimately emigrating to France. Parra still resides in France although, since 1989, he has regularly returned to Chile for performances.
