Welsh farmer, miller and folk singer from Cwmtirmynach, near Bala. For many years, he contributed to the culture of his local neighbourhood by taking a prominent part at concerts, literary meetings and eisteddfodau; he had a large repertoire of traditional songs and ballads, learnt from his parents, peers and friends. Following his singing performances on the BBC radio series ‘Noson Lawen' in 1944, he came to sudden national prominence in Wales and thereafter enjoyed a recording career late in life.
