- Actor, theatre director and socialist activist; co-wrote the world famous Moorsoldaten song during his imprisonment at the Emsland concentration camp. He played Eilif in the first production of Bertolt Brecht's Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder which opened at the Schauspielhaus Zürich on 19 April 1941.
