Comments: Hot jazz orchestra founded in Kansas City as Coon-Sanders Novelty Orchestra in 1919. The founders and leaders of the group were drummer Carleton Coon and pianist / singer Joe Sanders. The orchestra was very popular when Coon contracted a jaw infection in 1932 from which he died. Thereafter, the orchestra's popularity waned and Sanders formed his own group in 1935.
