- A band consisting of anonymous musicians. It resulted from a hoax started by some "Rolling Stone" mag editors. In its October 18, 1969 issue, the mag printed a tongue-in-cheek review of a (non-existent) album that pretended to be a super session of some of the time's most famous musicians, a. o. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger and John Lennon. According to the review, none of the artists could be named due to contractual clauses. The editors extended the joke by paying an obscure band to record an album, which was released by a Warner Bros. label. The Masked Marauders LP nearly made the Billboard's Hot 100....
