- Jazz pianist, drummer and composer. Born in French Algeria, Parker emigrated to the United States in 1968. An automobile accident in 1963 resulted in a permanent damage to his right shoulder, requiring him to modify his piano attack. In the 1970s, Parker also took up the drums. Some sources give his year of birth as 1925. I am using the year of birth that is given in Kernfeld, "The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz", 2d ed.
