Vocal group originally organized by four army servicemen in Panama in 1942. After their discharge from the service they reformed in Detroit where Gilda Maiken joined the group as lead singer. They recorded with Woody Herman as "The Blue Moods" in 1946. However, their name changed to "The Skylarks" when they recorded with Bing Crosby in 1947. They also recorded with Woody Herman, Dinah Shore. and Harry James. The lineup when there were with Harry James in 1949 included Gilda Maiken, Gladys Vesley, Chick Gale, Joe Pryor and George Becker. They also recorded on their own name. During the 1950s and 1960s they performed regularly on network television shows. They held their farewell concert at the Hollywood Palladium in 1979
