Tenor vocalist from Paterson, New Jersey. He joined Hooley and Hawkhurst's theatrical group and performed at their theater in Brooklyn. He then joined Harrigan and Hart's group, appearing with them in New York and on tour in other cities. In 1874 while performing with Harrigan and Hart in Boston, he introduced the song, "Over the Hills to the Poorhouse," which became his most requested number. By 1876 he was managing and performing in a theater in Paterson. By 1882 he was tired of the theater and entered politics and was elected sheriff. Subsequently, he was a funeral director and bred and owned thoroughbred horses.
