Country and bluegrass singer, bass player and comedian from Tennessee. In the 1930s he was a singer. By 1936 he formed a band that inclluded Eddy Arnold and fiddler Speedy McNatt. In 1940 he joined Bill Monroe's band as a bass player. By 1945 he formed his own Grande Ole Opry group, Cousin Wilbur and The Tennessee Mountain Boys. He married Blondie Leatherman in 1947 and subsequently they performed as Cousin Wilbur and Blondie Brooks.
