A member of South African Congress of Democrats, Communist Party of South Africa and the Anti-Apartheid Movement, Festenstein was exiled to England in 1963. She continues her activism as a participant in the network Jews Against Racist Zionism. Festenstein began acting in London around 1980 and singing jazz in 1995.
