International coloratura soprano opera star. Her career took her to, among others, opera stages in Greece, England, Germany, Russia and the United States, where she was a member of the Metropolitan Opera company in New York City for 11 seasons. Sembrich was born in Austrian Galicia (also known as Austrian Poland), which is now part of the Ukraine; she self-identified as a Polish patriot.
