Finnish-Swedish television series first broadcast in Finland in April 1976 starring Rose-Marie Rosenback, Leif Sundberg and Rainer Jansson, but most actors being non-professionals. The series were based on the popular books by Finnish-Swedish novelist Anni Blomqvist, the daughter of a fisherman born in Vårdö on the Åland Islands. She lost her husband and two sons at sea and started writing books about her loss.
The television series remain one of the most popular Finnish-Swedish television series of all time.
