Comments: US musical film directed by Vincent Minelli and starring Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan and Maurice Chevalier. It is based on the novella by Colette about a young Parisian girl being schooled to become a courtesan. The US premiere was on May 15, 1958 and three days later it was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was the winner of nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
This version followed at least one play and one film, both non-musical. It itself was followed by a Broadway stage musical version in 1973.
