- Originally titled "Alexis Zorbas", the movie starred Anthony Quinn as the title character. The film was based on the novel "Βίος και Πολιτεία του Αλέξη Ζορμπά" ("Life and Adventures of Alexis Zorbas")(1946) by Νίκος Καζαντζάκης (Nikos Kazantzakis).
