History
This is a difficult one. The compilation includes 57 tracks but the front sleeve states that only 31 of those are previously unreleased. How can we be sure this is one of those?
Also, as it says all tracks were recorded between 1952 and 1966, the recording date would be needed to determine if it possibly was the very first...
This is potentially an earlier recording than The Drifter's version... would you mind verifying?
The inlay card actually implicates it's the 'original'... See attachment.
Quite some songs on the "The Right Girl" compilation ("Brill Building xxx" seems to be a series) and on this very recent one (where "Another Night" is listed with lots of other demos) are the same. That doesn't have to mean they are exactly the same recordings, but reading the description, it appears very likely.
I hope that helps a bit on the way.
PS, Bastien: Good question for the date stated in/underneath [[|this YT]] clipLast updated by camembert electrique on 2020-03-25 01:55:45 UTC - Show original message
PPS, Bastien: I just noticed that Carol King's version, unlike other not yet added submissions, doesn't appear in the list on the Another Night with the Boys work page. Is that because of the 'need info'?

I agree that's what it implicates... but can Carl find the exact recording date?

Was just an 'unbureaucratic' info, but OK...

I don't know. It was just meant as a helping hint, but it's surely a great challenge to find out (details for Brill Tone Records, too).
Wow this took off - I don't have the exact recording date, but I imagine that this is the original demo supplied to The Drifters.
That's all I've got.
Bastien being in charge of Carole King, we'll surely be happy to leave the matter in his capable hands
For reasons explained elsewhere, I'm strongly opposed adding demos in our database. It's the can of worms thing! At best, a demo is comment worthy at the work level.

It's commercially released, so it's within the scope of our database. It doesn't matter whether it was originally a demo or not.
I don't have the exact recording date
I was able to find it. Allow me to challenge you?
You need to find more scans of https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Brill-Building-Legends-Complete-Recordings-1…

Got it. Carl, you too?
YIPPEE! Well done Carl! Adding an additional star for research skills!
Another Night with the Boys Carole King 1995 First recording on June 22, 1962
Obscure original
Released more than 10 years after it was recorded
Another Night with the Boys The Drifters [US] September 1962 First release
Could we please remove the tags "Obscure original" and "Released more than 10 years after it was recorded" on this?
Literally they are true, but they look ridiculous here. Users may draw the wrong conclusions here, we should specify these as demos, preferably behind the title.
