That's how I got to Memphis

Tom T. Hall: 1968 because Bill Haley recorded it for the first time at the end of that year for the US United Artists (50483) label b/w Ain't love funny ha ha ha (dates available on the Rock Star CD The Jodimars.

Also recorded first by Eddy Mitchell as Sur la route de Memphis (from the LP of the same name), 10/11/1976 then by Johnny Hallyday in 1996 on the Destination Vegas CD.

Does your source say "end of 1968", or is it more precise than that?

!! Hall's recording date is 11 September 1968 !!

His release was after Haley's, true.

10/11/1976 est la date de sortie de l'album d'Eddy Mitchell. Source : cette date figure sur des CDs sortis par UNIVERSAL/Polydor...

His release was after Haley's, true.


Updated. So now we have Hall's as first recording, and Haley's as first released.

Eddy Mitchell : la date complète est facilement trouvable sur le net et si je me souviens est elle est aussi indiquée en-dessous du 45 T. sur Encyclopédisque. 10/11/1976 = date de sortie.
