That specific date is a Broadway opening date; do we know definitively that the actual first performance here was not elsewhere? Refernces tend to speak of musicals as if they began on Broadway, but I have been finding earlier openings in other cities back to the earliest musicals. These may be considered trials before Broadway, but certainly people paid to attend full complete performances, not rehearsals.

I have posted on the editor forum. No response AFAIK. Nobody is really working in this area nowadays except for me. And encyclopedic works regarding musicals rarely mention anything but the Broadway opening.

So I have actually reduced the opening date to just the year. It is correct in any case, as any true opening would have been earlier the same year for a show opening in December. December 1 may be wrong for a true opening and I decline to use it.
