having a quick browse through this list of songs, and something just doesn't seem right...

carry that weight ( abbey road )

golden slumbers ( abbey road )

for some reason, these 2 songs are listed as " cover versions "....could someone explain how it can be that a band can cover something they wrote and first performed. I don't care about the fact that some other band called " trash " ( aptly named in my opinion ) released both songs ( as cover versions ) as a single before the beatles released Abbey road.

you like me too much ( help ) , this song appears to be missing altogether, can't find it anywhere. It was from the " help " album , though it did first appear on the Beatles VI album which was specifically intended for the states.

Of course, we all consider those songs Beatles originals. But: one of the highest goals of this site is to be as precise (and neutral) as possible. In this case this also means that two Beatles songs released by someone else a week before the Beatles did themselves, actually have to be noted as original releases. This does not mean they were the original/first recordings (and Lennon/McCartney are credited as original songwriters). If the editor addeding the Trash release - retired in the meantime - had verified earlier Beatles recording dates, he could have entered the Beatles versions as original "recordings" - looks a case for our to do list.

Also, keep in mind that the Trash single was released on Apple, so the Beatles were willingly letting that band release those songs upfront of themselves. Besides, you surely know about the "Songs Lennon/McCartney Gave Away" and that Macca performed some of them himself later on...
