History
There are some issues with this...
To find the release on the artist site, one has to combine that it might be featured on the 'store' subpage (it is), so the direct link to http://jeffhedbergjazz.com/store/the_summer_knows/ would have been helpful. The same goes for https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/hedberg (where the album is listed as Various Artists).
Hedberg says the album was released by Blujazz, but it can't be found on that company's site (anymore?) and the link http://blujazz.com/scrolls/hedberg.html is defunct. CDbaby attribute it to JPH Music/Blujazz (JPH is Hedberg himself) and Amazon to CDbaby... It is also not listed in discogs' A Change in Plans discography]]. All this makes it diffcult to define the really releasing label.
Although there may in principle be no doubt that "Nica's Dream" is a version of Nica's Dream (same for "'Round Midnight", "Stella by Starlight" etc.), there are no songwriting credits proving so on the reference pages, and no listening snippets.
Please don't get this wrong! Take it as a small insight in how seriously we take our work and an appreciation of interesting and well researched submissions.
Sorry about the truncated links! Will include full links in the future.
I realize that the information provided is rather sparse, but I own a copy of the recording, and can confirm that it's the correct song and set of lyrics.
The reviews at the time of the release all talk about Blujazz: https://jazztimes.com/reviews/brass-tracks/jeff-hedberg-the-summer-knows/
Not sure about the dual label situation; maybe the copyright reverted to Hedberg at some point?
That's a qualified remark! Always appreciated.
Would you be able to post a snapshot of the record label (or whatever) including the credits? Then I could use that as a proof.
Added, thanks! Found enough evidence.
PS: Added the entire album now and all versions as vocal ones. Not all snippets listened to went on for long enough to confirm this for each track, though, so if not correct (or anything else needs amending), please tell.
