New information: Here are 2 citations from Google Billboard that show a recording in 1947 by Bobby Capo with earlier release (I include a video) than the one by Trio Durango's in 1947. First, this one from BB shows the Trio version in Dec 1947:

These from BB show Bobby Capo in April and July (on sale) in 1947:

Very good find Mary,

Bobby Capo's is very likely an earlier one.

I checked the next website (especially matrix-numbers) and come to the conclusion Trio Durango's version was recorded in the latter part of 1947 (matrix P-5252-47)

EDIT: Maybe a bit earlier because on the 78 itself I see a matrix number that is different;

Engraved in the laque is the number 5084-47. but also P-5252-47

And Bobby Capo's version was recorded before the summer of 1947.

Yet there could very well be an even earlier version.

Sacasas y su Orquesta. (=Anselmo Sacasas)

Recorded April 11, 1947 and released on Victor 23-0651 (matrix D7XB-252)

AND !!!!!

Como Orquesta Arcaño y sus Maravillas

Recorded April 9, 1947

Released on Victor 23-0656 (matrix CU 1643)

Hi, jojo. I was reading something in Spanish (don't remember what) that stated Bobby Capo was the first to record Quizas Quizas , so did the research and found the info.

I find the Ayala collection at the Florida U is not very useful, most of the time because too often there are no dates for the recording.

So can we confirm when Sacasas y su Orquesta was recorded?

In my previous posting I gave a link in which you can see the matrixmumber / recordingdate and reasenumber of the specific song.

Look under the heading of ORQUESTA MARAVILLA DE ARCAÑO

Under the Como Orquesta Arcaño y sus Maravillas heading you find:

CU1643 4/9/47 V 23-0656 CU Quizás, quizás / dz OF

TCD-29 arr. C

CU1643 is the Matrixnumber

4/9/47 is the recordingdate

V 23-0656 is the release-number Victor 23-0656

CU means recorded in Cuba

When you're right you're right. I've specified Trio Durango's release-date.

I'm marking this as processed but don't forget to submit Bobby Capo as the original performance.
